Firm – Practice Areas – Criminal Law

Criminal law (a.k.a. penal law) refers to the area of laws and justice that involve prosecution by the government of a person for an act that has been classified as a crime. A “crime” is any act or omission of an act that violates public law—local, state, or federal. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. Crimes include both felonies (serious offenses), which are usually punishable by imprisonment of a year or more, and misdemeanors (less serious offenses), punishable by
less than a year.
